We were delighted and honoured to be invited to attend this well established meeting of Marcos enthusiasts which has been ably organised by Maarten Krikken for the past 5 years. The event this year attracted a record number of cars and drivers from Holland, Belgium, England, Germany, Luxembourg and Sweden.
The penalty for our being rescued from obscurity was an address to the assembled party after dinner on Saturday evening. The presentation was from an assembly of pictures of John Sutton's racing days most of which appear in various articles in Motorsnippets. This was expanded with some anecdotes and reminiscences which cannot be repeated in print.
After the assembly on Saturday afternoon there was a tour of the local brewery at Hertog Jan followed by a tasting. The glorious weather continued through Sunday and after breakfast further Marcos cars arrived so that the car park was filled with them. The Mini Marcos was well represented as were the various developments from Fastback to Mantula.
The modern Marcos is an awesome road car and some, fitted with the Buick engine, have staggering performance and the Dennis Adams design has, with subtle changes, continued to give these cars a unique appeal. There were some beautifully maintained examples on display this week-end.
It is not possible to mention all the owners, although many of them can be found in the "Drivers" database elsewhere in Motorsnippets. One who even recalled seeing us race at the Nurburgring in 1963 was Klaus Tweddell (he can only have been aged 11) and he now has a collection of four Marcos cars ranging from 1961 to 1964. It is amazing how impressionable young men can be !!
