The 750 Motor Club stand at the Autosport Racing Car Show at the NEC was chosen as the venue for the launch of the new Sports 1000 Formula.

Over the years since its inception in 1939 the 750 Motor Club has promoted racing formulae for the enthusiastic amateur. The original formula was based on the Austin Seven and many notable constructors cut their teeth and developed their skills in this low cost arena. The list is long but some of the best known are Colin Chapman, Eric Broadley, Arthur Mallock, Jem Marsh and Tony Southgate.

Over the years other formulae have been added and the club now hosts a total of 12 championships.

The new Sports 1000 follows the club's practice of having a very simple formula which allows the maximum innovation whilst keeping the cost within the reach of most enthusiasts.

The basic specification is as follows :-

Engine From the BMW 1000cc 95bhp 4 cylinder motorcycle (water cooled),
produced between 1983 - 1992 for the K100 range.
Gearbox The standard K100 with a maximum of 5 forward gears, must be fitted
with a reverse gear which can be external.
Chassis Must be a tubular frame, but engine can be mounted front or rear.
Suspension must be a live rear axle, otherwise free choice.
Brakes Optional
Steering Optional
Wheels Optional
Bodywork Can be to individual design.

The car unveiled at the show was manufactured by Club member Adrian Daniels. His company "adr engineering" offer a complete range of components to build the car for those wishing to get started immediately. The cost less engine, gearbox, instruments, wiring and piping is £8,500.

The more ambitious may well wish to put their own ideas into practice.

The full regulations are published on the 750 Motor Club website.
