FERRUCCIO
LAMBORGHINI (1916-1993)
Ferruccio Lamborghini
was born in Renazzo, a town near Cento in Emilia-Romagna north-Italian
province. Pursuing his interests in mechanics, he went to a
technical school in Bologna. After the Second World War
started, he found himself working for the Italian Air Forces.
Italy capitulated and Ferruccio continued his army work
under the British command.
Soon after
the war, Ferruccio started a small business converting military
equipment into agricultural machines. Also, as his side job,
he was tuning Fiat cars and even competed himself. The
industrialisation of agriculture, that marked the post-war years
in Italy, generated strong demand for agricultural machines
and Ferruccio's business grew strongly. Lamborghini Trattrice
became very famous for their tractors production. The
company successfully produced engines and transmission units
for its products, as well. Ferruccio diversified his production
into other areas and was producing air-conditioning equipment
among other things.
Then, the story
says, being unsatisfied with cars he was driving, Ferruccio
decided to make his own. Automobile Ferruccio Lamborghini SpA
was born and after building some of the most exciting and innovative
supercars and exotic luxury cars, in 1970 the controlling interest
in the company was sold.
At the late
age, Ferruccio was not ready to give up his life as a businessman.
The last enterprise that he ventured into was wine making.
