AUSTIN SEVEN "MACLACHLAN" SPECIAL

This special was built in 1925 as a Gordon England "Brooklands" Model. Driven in USA by R.M. Papepelian, it won many races. Returned to UK in 1926, purchased by "Mac" whilst at Cambridge University. Developed into present condition by Mac up to 1936. Owned by John Sutton since 1958

Specifications:
Chassis original 1926, but fitted with 1930 "Ulster" front axle to lower the chassis by 3 1/2 inches. Engine 1930 supercharged Ulster crankcase with "Rubber Duck" block and cylinder head, retained by 25 studs. Centric supercharger fitted in front of engine and driven by reversed drive. Supercharge boost is 20 lb/sq in. Fuel - 80% methanol, 10% petrol and 10% toluene. Develops 65 bhp at 6500 rpm, giving 240 bhp/ton.

Performance:
Standing start 1/4 mile - 16 seconds. Top speed approx. 115 mph.
This car has won over 100 races and speed trials and has the longest continuous racing history of any Austin 7.
