Part Three of this significant photographic discovery is devoted to the Goodwood Nine Hours race. This event created enormous interest at the time and Autosport magazine devoted three issues and 13 pages to covering it. The first pictures are from the 1953 event which was run on the 22nd August. It was a Le Mans type start and the pole position was held by the Abecassis/Whitehead H.W.M. Their qualifying time was 1min. 43 secs.

During the night racing goes on and so do the pit stops and driver changes. Here is the Peter Whitehead/Ian Stewart Jaguar "C" type which came in with failing brakes and low oil pressure. It lost time and its second place gave way to third at the finish.

Another night time pit stop, this time the Aston Martin of Peter Collins/Pat Griffiths. They finished second behind the similar Aston Martin of Eric Thompson and Reg Parnell who averaged 78.94 mph and completed 297 laps.

The 1955 race took place on the 20th August and was the fourth in the series. Here in the pits are Stirling Moss and Von Hanstein with the Porsche 550. Unfortunately they retired after 237 laps at around 10.30 pm when the car was crashed.

The familiar and dangerous Le Mans start again. In pole position this time was the Ferrari of De Portago/Hawthorn. Their race was run at about 10.00 pm after 219 laps with transmission problems.

This picture shows the Moss/Von Hanstein Porsche heading away from the pits towards Madgwick corner. The car ahead of it is the Tojeiro-Bristol of Rogers and Crabb which only lasted for 48 laps when they crashed, so this photo must have been taken before 5.00 pm.

The night shift again and this time it is the Peter Collins/Tony Brooks Aston Martin. They finished 3rd four laps behind their winning team mates. Between them was the Jaguar "D" type of Titterington/Sanderson.

First home was Peter Walker in the Aston Martin which completed 309 laps in the 9 hours of racing. Here he is arriving at the pits to be greeted by the pit crew and admiring officials.

We published this picture in the opening article, but it is well worth repeating as it completes the section on the Goodwood Nine Hours. Here are Peter Walker and Dennis Poore garlanded and sampling the Moet in a rather more subdued way than would currently be the case.
